Google is apparently aiming to introduce a new artificial intelligence (AI) capability to Search. According to the source, the Mountain View, California-based tech giant is developing an AI Mode for Google Search that would provide users with a conversational interface for searched questions. However, this function is stated to be distinct from the AI Overviews feature, which displays a quick AI-generated overview of the search term. According to reports, the AI Mode would also highlight similar links and allow users to ask follow-up questions.
Google Search Could Be Getting an AI Mode
According to The Information, Google Search will soon have an AI Mode. According to the magazine, the AI Mode interface is identical to the Web version of the Gemini chatbot, as reported by an unidentified product developer. This move is said to be an attempt by the corporation to reach a bigger audience with its Gemini chatbot.
According to the research, Google is striving to catch up with OpenAI in terms of ChatGPT active users. According to Business of Apps figures, Gemini had 42 million active users in October, while OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated earlier this month that the chatbot had reached 300 million weekly active users.
As a result of this imbalance, Google is apparently intending to launch Gemini to its billions of users through its Search service. The AI Mode in Google Search is reported to be located behind the top text field, on the left side of the "All", "Images", and "Videos" tabs.
When a user selects the AI Mode, they are apparently transported to a new interface that is comparable to Gemini's web client. After entering a search query, users will supposedly get contextual information, relevant URLs, connected webpages, and the possibility to ask follow-up questions. The tech titan is claimed to feel that this will boost the search engine's performance.
Furthermore, it is rumored that the AI Mode would feature both text and voice-based instructions, providing users with a hands-free experience. It is unknown when Google will deploy the new AI function on Google Search.
