The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are no longer available for purchase in Switzerland, and the business is set to stop selling their smartphones in the European Union (EU) two years after they were released, according to a report. The corporation will discontinue sales of another smartphone debuted in 2022: the third generation iPhone SE. Unlike Apple's newest smartphone models, these three devices had a Lightning connection, which has been phased out in favor of the ubiquitous USB Type-C connector.
Apple's iPhone 14 and iPhone SE (2022) are expected to be discontinued in 27 EU countries
The EU's forthcoming standard charger laws go into force on December 28, and Apple looks to be prepared to meet the deadline, according to a MacRumors report. According to the magazine, Apple has stopped selling the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone SE (2022) on its Swiss website, although in-store sales will continue until the deadline.
Gadgets 360 confirmed that the entries for all three models on Apple's website for Switzerland had the remark "Derzeit nicht verfügbar," which translates to "currently not available." As at the time of publication, the phones were still available through the company's websites in many EU countries.
Switzerland is not a member of the EU or the European Economic Area (EEA), although it does participate in the European single market (or European common market) alongside Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. As a result, the business plans to halt smartphone sales in these territories, as well as the EU's 27 member nations.
This implies that when the December 28 deadline hits, Apple will not officially sell an iPhone SE model in the EU, but resellers can continue to sell leftover phones. Customers may not have to wait long, however. According to recent claims, Apple is already developing a fourth-generation iPhone SE model, which might have an improved design, Face ID, and the company's rumored in-house modem chip.
EU buyers, on the other hand, must now choose between the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 16. These cellphones include a USB Type-C connection, allowing the business to continue selling them after December 28. Apple has also upgraded its other accessories, including the AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) and AirPods Max, with a USB Type-C connector, far ahead of schedule.
