Microsoft is testing an artificial intelligence (AI) real-time Translation capability in Live Captions for Copilot+ PCs with AMD and Intel chipsets. The new feature, which was announced on Wednesday, is being evaluated with the most recent Windows 11 Insider preview release and is now accessible through the Dev Channel. Additionally, the tech behemoth is improving the real-time translation capability in Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs. Furthermore, the business has fixed certain bugs in the Recall function, which was offered in preview earlier this year.
Microsoft tests real-time translation in live captions
In a blog post, Microsoft revealed that the new AI functionality will be available on the Dev Channel with the Windows 11 Insider preview build 26120.2705 (KB5050636). Microsoft had already introduced real-time translation in Live Captions on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, but it was not accessible on AMD and Intel chipsets. With this upgrade, chosen users will now be able to test the product and provide feedback to the firm.
Real-time translations will enable users to convert audio from over 44 languages into English. Subtitles for the translated audio will appear at the bottom of the screen. The function allows for real-time translation of video calls, recordings, and streaming information. It employs Microsoft's Copilot and native big language models.
To utilize the function, users must first set their device's language to English. The function can translate audio from many languages, but not from English to other languages.
The functionality has also been improved on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs. The real-time translation tool may now translate audio into Chinese (Simplified) language.
Additionally, the feature will support translation from Arabic, Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, German, Greek, English, Spanish, English, Estonian, Finnish, France, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovene, and Swedish.
Furthermore, the Recall function is receiving some enhancements. Users can enable or disable the function by selecting "Turn Windows feature on or off". Microsoft has said that if customers see a notice saying "Make sure Recall is saving snapshots" despite the fact that snapshot saving is enabled on the Recall Settings page, restarting the device would cure the issue.
