Kate Middleton demonstrated early indications that she was more than ready for life in the royal family before she was made Princess of Wales, and one particular incident from her 2007 split from Prince William says it all.
At the height of "Willsmania," Kate and William's romance immediately captured the public's attention after they first met at the University of St. Andrews.
Although they were pals at first, the pair officially became a relationship in 2007 before a brief breakup made headlines and led many to speculate that William wasn't ready to commit.
Richard Eden, a royal analyst for the Daily Mail, claims that Kate displayed her steely royal poise throughout the split. Eden described a fortuitous encounter with Kate and the late socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson during an appearance on the Palace Confidential podcast.
Eden asserted Tara asked Kate how she was handling the breakup and gently brought it up. At first, Kate said, "It's fine." "It must be so hard" was Tara's next push, but Kate cut it off with three calm words: "Really, it's fine."
Eden writes, "She made it obvious through her body language that she didn't want to talk about the subject, and the conversation quickly moved on to happier and less fraught matters."
During that period, Catherine was perceived as William's party-loving girlfriend, but my initial interaction with her revealed that she was a tough cookie who wouldn't be coerced into saying something she didn't want to say.
"She did remind me of members of the Royal Family, who are much older than herself, and who have the amazing ability to strike up a conversation with anyone without offering anything anyway," he continued.
In their 2010 engagement interview, Kate subsequently remarked, "I think if you can come out of that stronger and learn things about yourself."
