Apple looks to be discreetly developing foldable devices in the background, and the iPhone manufacturer appears to be one step closer to releasing its foldable portfolio. The Cupertino tech company has yet to announce its plans, but Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has provided a summary of the new product category on the way from Apple. According to reports, the business is working on a new foldable tablet that will be the size of two iPad Pros when placed next to each other. Apple is apparently aiming to market the foldable iPad by 2028 and is working to make it creaseless when opened.
Apple's foldable iPad might be ready around 2028
According to Mark Gurman's most recent Power On newsletter, Apple designers are working on something resembling a huge iPad that unfolds to the size of two iPad Pros side by side. The iPhone maker has apparently been working on this product for a few years and hopes to release it around 2028.
Apple's prototypes of this new gadget "have a nearly invisible crease," Gurman says, something that other firms, including as Samsung, have struggled to achieve with their foldables. Apple apparently wants the screen to resemble a single, unbroken piece of glass. Gurman thinks that the foldable device will run "iPadOS or a variant of it." The gadget is believed to have characteristics of both the iPad and the MacBook.
Apple would not be the first company to experiment with a large-screen mobile device. The gadget might be comparable to Microsoft's Courier idea and the Surface Neo. Lenovo's Yoga Book 9i, costing around $2,000, features twin 13.3-inch OLED panels that function in tandem. However, the Yoga Book 9i has a hinge, but Apple's version may seem like a continuous sheet of glass and is likely to be more costly.
Gurman also mentions that a foldable iPhone is still in the works, but he doesn't anticipate it "before 2026 at the earliest," as previous reports have suggested.
The new allegation comes roughly a week after a leak claiming that an Apple foldable smartphone with an 18.8-inch display will be available between 2028 and 2030. Gurman claims that this forecast is consistent with information he obtained from sources concerning an Apple foldable computer.
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal stated that Apple planned to debut two foldable devices over the next three years. The brand might reveal a larger smartphone with a 19-inch screen, as well as a smaller model that can be folded into an iPhone and has a larger screen than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The latter will most likely see the light of day first.
