Amazon is introducing new accessibility capabilities for its Fire TVs, making the devices more inclusive and accessible to all, the firm announced on Wednesday. It now allows consumers to enjoy video with their family while using a new Dual Audio function on certain TVs. It also extends support for the Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids (ASHA) protocol to more hearing aid devices.
New accessibility features for Amazon Fire TV
Amazon outlined in a press article the new accessibility capabilities that will be available on Fire TVs. The business released the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED series last month, and it will soon acquire an exclusive feature known as Dual Audio. Users will be able to concurrently stream audio to their ASHA-enabled hearing aids and TV's built-in speakers via two distinct audio outputs. This is thought to lead to a more sociable experience while viewing movies and television shows with family and friends.
Amazon already has collaborations with hearing aid manufacturers such as Starkey and Cochlear. Now, the e-commerce behemoth is collaborating with WS Audiology (WSA) to extend ASHA compatibility to all Widex Moment behind-the-ear (BTE) and receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aids. Users with Widex BTE and RIC hearing aids may now stream material straight from ASHA-enabled Fire TVs.
This function is supported by the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series, the Fire TV Omni QLED Series, the Fire TV Cube, and other Amazon Fire TVs.
Amazon is also making the TV setup process easier by using tactile-marked QR codes in its Quick Start instructions. Customers with visual impairments can scan the codes using the raised UV dots portion of the QR code, which is found in the upper left corner of the device's rear panel Quick Start Guide. It will send users to the Amazon website, where they can learn about localized product information, helpful setup, troubleshooting suggestions, video instructions with captions, and how-to information regarding the device's accessibility capabilities.
