Cynthia Erivo may have moved the "entire crew" of Wicked: For Good to tears with her singing abilities.
The actress has disclosed fascinating information about her part as Elphaba in the next Wicked movie, including co-writing an original song and hinting at a more adult narrative.
In a Variety interview, Erivo said that she worked with composer Stephen Schwartz on a new song for Elphaba in the second season of Wicked.
"I collaborated on one of the new songs, and it's so special to me," she tells me.
"The entire team was in tears when we taped it. I hope the audience is prepared because it's a song that gets to the core of who Elphaba is.
Erivo also alluded to the darker tone of the second film.
The actress stressed the necessity of confronting established concepts of good and evil in the Wicked storyline.
"Elphaba is not evil. None of the characters are simply good or bad. "They are flawed, complex, and human," Erivo explains.
"This narrative challenges us to evaluate the labels we impose on others and ourselves. It's about empathy and comprehension. "The world requires more of that right now."
In addition to her work on Wicked, Erivo informed the source that her debut album would be published next year, soon before the premiere of Wicked: For Good.
Erivo sees the record as a profoundly personal undertaking and a therapeutic release.
"I worked so hard on this record. It's an extension of me and a reflection of all the things that have influenced my life."
