Travis Kelce praised Kansas City kicker Harrison Butker for getting the club through the penalty following a record-breaking touchdown in the previous game.
The 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end was penalized for slamming the football through the goalpost during his touchdown celebration on Wednesday, December 25th, as an homage to Tony Gonzalez, whose record he had recently broken.
Kelce surpassed Gonzalez to set the all-time record for touchdown catches.
However, as a result of the celebration kick, Butker was forced to kick a 48-yard extra point instead of the standard 33-yard effort as a penalty.
When the game finished, the NFL star informed reporters that he knew Butker would have his back and was unconcerned about the outcome.
"I knew the score," he explained. "I knew my guy Harrison had my back on the field goal."
Taylor Swift's beau's fourth-quarter touchdown and Butker's extra goal put the Chiefs up 29-10 over the Pittsburgh Steelers, which proved to be the final score.
Kansas City's recent victory on Christmas assured them the AFC's top spot and a first-round bye in the playoffs.
In his winning speech, Kelce paid tribute to Gonzalez, who spent the first 12 seasons of his stellar NFL career with the Chiefs.
"It's showing Tony some love and paying honor to who he's been, not just in our organization, but in football. We all remember how legendary it was for him to slam the ball through the goalpost on a regular basis," stated the football great.
"I made my best effort. I'm not sure whether I did it quite like him. "I ran it," he said with a smile.
