James Gunn claimed that the genesis story of the DC series Creature Commandos character Weasel is "the saddest thing" he has ever written, and explains why.

Gunn offered more insight on Weasel, a misunderstood character introduced in The Suicide Squad (2021).
Contrary to the claims that put Weasel in Belle Reve jail, Gunn has always thought the character was not responsible for the deaths of 27 children.
"I didn't know the specifics of it, but I always knew that it wasn't fair," Gunn told me.
Weasel's disturbing past is revealed in Episode 4 of Gunn's animated DC series, Chasing Squirrels.
Gunn wrote the episode, which delves into Weasel's history as the squad takes on a task involving Princess Ilana Rostovic (voiced by Maria Bakalova).
Weasel's life is portrayed in flashbacks, beginning with his debut outside an elementary school over Thanksgiving break. Despite his friendly demeanor and fun interactions with the children, an elderly man mistook him for a threat and dials 911.
