According to reports, OpenAI is behind schedule in developing GPT-5. According to the source, the AI business has encountered various barriers in bringing the successor to GPT-4 to the necessary level of performance, including a training data deficit and the need for huge funding. The artificial intelligence (AI) model is believed to have been in development for more than 18 months, which is substantially longer than the business originally intended. It is also unknown when the large language model (LLM) will appear.
The Wall Street Journal claimed that the GPT-5 project, which is also called Orion, is now running behind schedule, and there is little clarification on when it could work, if at all. According to unidentified sources, the AI business is now grappling with two major issues: the costs of constructing the model and a lack of adequate training data to make it sophisticated enough.
According to the article, OpenAI ran two huge training sessions for GPT-5, each lasting months and collecting vast quantities of data. However, the company reportedly encountered unexpected issues each time, preventing it from achieving the desired results. Notably, a six-month lengthy training session for GPT-5 is believed to cost the corporation over $500,000,000 (around Rs. 4,260 crores).
Currently, GPT-5 is said to be marginally better than OpenAI's existing AI models. However, it is apparently not sophisticated enough to be profitable for users and corporations, and it cannot earn a profit due to the large costs associated with maintaining it functioning, according to those familiar with the project.
As things stand, OpenAI will likely require many more training sessions to get the AI model up to the necessary level of intelligence. However, if the organization has a data deficit, the model's training may be further delayed. Microsoft, OpenAI's largest supporter, is said to be dissatisfied with the delay. The tech titan apparently expected GPT-5 to be released by mid-2024, but this has not been the case.
