Ahead of the success of Sonic 3, fans are expecting for a showdown between the Sega mascot and Nintendo's Super Mario.
Earlier, actor Ben Schwartz discussed the possibility of a crossover movie between the two.
Now, director Jeff Fowler has spoken out about the situation.
According to Fowler, he is open to the notion, but he also feels that both characters have distinct animation features, and so their styles differ.
"I mean, it's difficult to say. They have animated films, so their style is a little different from what we're doing," the 46-year-old filmmaker explained.
He went on to say, "Obviously, our characters are depicted more photorealistically so that they can blend in with our live-action setting and humans. So that type of crossover is difficult to anticipate."
When asked about the possibility of this competition, the animator said, "I don't think anybody would ever rule anything out, and we're certainly open to anything in terms of pitches and ideas." So, who's to say?
Sonic the Hedgehog 3, starring Jim Carrey, Keanu Reeves, Idris Elba, and Ben, is performing well in theaters throughout the world.
